The Project
River Aire
Sabarmati Narmada Beccy and student Beccy working River of paperArtists in Yorkshire and Gujarat came together to build a dialogue that engagds with the issues of climate change through growing forms of communication that reflect the global community.
From 1st – 14th November 2008 a team of artists and writers went to Gujarat, H.M. Patel University to work with staff, students and local people in developing a response to these issues. Beccy Stirrup went as the team’s creative writer, both artistically and practically contributing to the project.
The aim
To link diverse communities through exploring the traditional mythological cultural and spiritual connections people have to rivers. This has involved looking at our changing world and responding to issues of climate change.
Ink’s involvement
Ink looked at the origin of the River Aire and how local people respond to it in contrast to the rivers Sabarmati and Narmada in Gujarat. Beccy Stirrup worked as part of the team of professionals from India and Yorkshire to help form the project plan for further development. She also spoke at the University’s International Creativity Conference and facilitated a practical workshop with students.
